Radio Radio
I have always fantasized about having my own Radio station ever since Fab 208 was my only bedsheet companion..
Now ,through the digital age, its possible to make your own radio station..!!
Imagine..no inane chat , senseless ads, annoying jingles or hated music...
Just your own choice..and what the music genome project can delight you with..Bliss

A decade of death
The chilling , bare statistic of 50,000 US young men and 3 Million Vietnamese killed in around a decade... Will we ever learn...
At least its comforting to know that some GI's rebelled ...
And still wars don't change ..nor does the opposition..

The killing forest
When I visited Leningrad in the 80's I never realized..because it was a state secret till 88...that the near-by forest had 7million of Stalin's victims buried there

Somme battles are bigger than others
Its 90 years since the barbaric waste that was the Battle of the Somme..20.000 British youth were butchered ..IN ONE DAY...!!
http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/FWWsomme.htm
Gained..10 kilometers of grass
Lost... 800,00 lives..!!!
For me this battle sums up the futility of war ..are you listening Tony and George...

Come on America...
That bastion of advanced liberal democracy known as the Philippines..!!... has got rid of the death penalty today..

Showing up the USA..and leaving the country in the company of some extremely dodgy countries, such as China , Saudi Arabia ,Yemen and the Congo...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_punishment
But with George "The Killer " Bush in power its doubtful..he will hang anyone..including kids and the mentally ill..
But we can only hope...and shout..

Depressing ,yes but they are out there...

Korea:The first not so Cold War
The Korean War,which started today in 1950, was important for many reasons.
http://www.panmunjomtour.com/english/war/war_1.html
It was the first major conflict since WW2 and , for many , started the Cold war .
It involved literally millions of troops..inc 1 million US troops..imagine that number in Iraq...and 3 million Chinese....Mao was up for a long fight...and had no regard for human life. However its always interesting to see the other viewpoint of the War..
http://centurychina.com/history/faq1.shtml#1
Of course it invoked the usual atrocities of war
http://www.fantompowa.net/Flame/usa_massacre_in_korea.htm
Its impact ,and its lessons not yet learnt, from Vietnam onwards ,has only grown..even if MASH is off the air..!!

The echoes are everywhere..

Godalming rocks
What an area... the last public execution
http://www.andrewspages.dial.pipex.com/godalming-m.htm
and the first to have street lighting
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godalming
Its quiet appearence neatly disguises its contribution to modern culture..

Bickershaw festival
This wet 3 day extravaganzas was the first festival I ever attended in May 72..A bewildering array of stars capped off the 60s,rather than projected into the 70s..Although a lot of bands I saw then still stay on my I-pod now...Hawkwind,Beefheart,ISB, Donavan,Grateful Dead,Flaming Groovies and the Kinks....
http://www.repfoto.com/repproductions/bickershaw/index.htm
Even the organiser ..Jeremy Beagle..!!...couldn't stop the site and stage collapsing in the rain..It was on the top of recently disused Mines after all..!!
http://www.iowrock.demon.co.uk/bickershaw/
However the friendliness and camaraderie of the crowd always stayed with me..A brief glimpse of the dying hippy community ..Sharing food and anything else..!!!
Superb..
http://www.ukrockfestivals.com/bickershaw-menu.html
You must admit the Greatful Dead gave VFM with a 4 hour set, esp as most people didn't pay..Or paid 50p like me to a deranged security guard...
Happy trucking..
